Suggestions to minimize the impact of paternal gut dysbiosis on offspring health

So, I know this automatically makes me a contributor to climate change and all things bad, etc. But my partner wants to have a baby.

She is not a woman with eubiosis, but she is not horribly unhealthy either. Only major issue is asthma. And has used antibiotics 4 times in her life. Never had surgery ever until wisdom tooth removal.

Problem is me. I have used 5 antibiotics in my life from medical suggestions (didn’t know better), 3 of those completely unnecessary. I also got major dysbiosis from an intestinal infection recently (and as a child too but I didn’t have noticeable effects and no chronic illness). I now have some chronic symptoms, pertaining brain and joints inflammation, alongside digestive (can see my case in profile).

I know I can improve my diet and do interventions, including FMT, to alleviate my dysbiosis, but I am scared that it will haunt my child by destroying his health. If only I had been able to prevent my dysbiosis…

I wanted children before because I identified as healthy and knew I wouldn’t pass on serious health conditions to my offspring, but I no longer want to. Yet, I love my partner and she wants to have offspring and I don’t want to deny her that.

What can I do to prevent my child from inheriting a further dysbiotic gut, in the case I don’t get FMT? At least from my side? I know he/she won’t have te health of a good donor but at least to spare him/her from chronic illness.

Good. Too few people are.

There are no good options, which is why chronic disease is drastically increasing. Obtaining FMT from a super-donor and fixing your issues is extremely unlikely. Your "best" option might be to find a sperm donor, but their screening isn't ideal either.

Welp, she wants my child, as expected.

I think I will have to just deal with the fact that my kid will be more vulnerable in the future to disease than me and their grandparents and his ancestors. And all I can give them is knowledge on how to take care of him or herself.

If they come out neurodivergent or something, I will advice them not to reproduce or to find a mate from a different ethnicity and health markers.

Not trying to be sarcastic or joking but maybe get your offspring/child a FMT from a super-donor (High Quality Athlete) early in the kid's life ?

This seems to be a easier/better option because even if you were to do FMT, your wife isn't in very healthy state, and as we know that Microbiome accumulates and worsen over generation. So, your offspring might/be extremely prone to suffer from health issues later in life if not earlier.

Changing your offspring's Microbiome via FMT from High Quality Athlete Donor can make your child healthier, less prone to health issues later in life (Unless he takes antibiotics/other medications which affects gut significantly).

Although, there might be some things regarding body/health which can't be altered via even FMT after the baby is born i e. some damage is done before the baby is born and during ages 1-3. (I am not sure about this, Maybe Michael Harrop or anyone else can correct me on this.)

Definitely. The parents should do FMT prior to conception to give the child the best outcome.

No one has access to this.

You are and were right about this. I experienced this myself since last couple of months when I tried finding High Level Donors (Especially Male ones). (In nearby areas, not online)

Usually, these High Level Athletes are so busy/disciplined in their own rigid schedule, or have a high functioning life making them unable to empathize with Chronically ill people.

In their minds, Chronically people are lazy/losers, "don't push themself enough" etc.

Also, these people are usually financially and emotionally satisfied enough that their brains are unable to even process the suffering in the life of a person with severe health issues.

I think this is a better strategy. Anyhow, we talked and I told her that I made up my mind about refusing biological children regardless of what she wants. If we break up in the future due to this, we will have to see. Even if we both do FMT, child might not have a good life because-
This sort of thing happened to me. My parents didn’t have chronic gut issues when I was conceived, but at around 0-2 years old, they gave me expired chicken at a party (nobody knew, everyone got food poisoned), I had IBS for a few months but recovered. But considering how now my GI issues came back after a similar infection caused by raw chicken and with BAM deficiency, I don’t think even FMT might give my child a good chance with the damage I have accumulated.

I may be able to cure my BAM if I find a good donor (who knows), but neither me nor partner will give a safe gut legacy to child.

Off-topic, but when the concept of “microbiome diversity decline” becomes clearer to the physician world in the future, to the point they can no longer ignore it’s main role behind the prevalence of chronic illnesses and their increasing difficulty to treat, we will already have a new population bottleneck: all of the sick and disable will no longer be able to breed (and if they do, their children won’t live long), but the fittest humans with the most diverse guts will survive.

Yet, the lack of genetic diversity will lead to chronic illnesses again, eventually. I just hope the new humans will learn their lesson then (with a climate disaster sprinkled in) and stay nomadic/hunter-gatherer.

I don't think 'Lack of Genetic Diversity' is or should even be a real problem. Genetics are wildly overstated/overrated in terms of their actual impact on health.

In My Opinion, Microbiome is vastly more responsible for the health of entire human race.

Although, I do agree with your last point that Humans were better off with Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle or atleast not making Carbs/Grains the staple of our diet.

The shifting our diets into Carbs/Grains and Processed Oils/Sugar wildly messed up humans' brains and health overall. (And ofc unnecessary consumption of Antibiotics.)

It is easy to get into this bias when you first learn about the microbiome. Genetics is as important. Otherwise, breeding with your cousin wouldn’t have consequences.

I think this is common knowledge for anyone who is above 18 and literate.

I wasn't denying or referring to Inbreeding/ having kids with cousins.

Genetic Diversity doesn't just mean having offsprings outside your family. I think you are knowledgeable enough to understand what i meant. It's a simple misunderstanding.

My point is that it is very easy for readers here to think this way because we are sick from a microbiome issue. Sickle cell anemia is something that has been recently fixed by gene therapy alone, not FMT. Because it’s something that is caused by genetic disturbance.

So saying genetics is not as important is as dangerous as shooting down FMT.
Your point is right.

I should have given more details regarding my stand and what I meant.

My frustration is towards the state of Medical/Biology field, that since decades most medical issues if not every issue has been blamed on Genetics, This has and is still caused hindrance to the thought and reasoning that Microbiome is responsible for much more medical issues and the Biological influence Microbiome holds. Not just among general population but also Doctors/Scientists

I didn't mean that we should completely ignore Genetics. I just think that more focus, more importance and more funding should be diverted/given towards FMT/Microbiome research. Like how it is given towards towards Genetics research overall.

Now you are making sense.

Considering how many researchers downplay the lack of high quality FMT issue despite Michael reaching out, this sort of thing won’t happen until the researchers are more confident about it (unlikely) and physicians actually start listening to them.

Sadly, these two things probably won’t happen during our lifetimes.
