Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and to FMT, this will be my first attempt. Looking to do it DIY with poop donation from trusted friends/community.

One of my best donors meets all criteria, except some scant lifetime antibiotic use and anxiety that isn't "clinical", and she has a family history of colon cancer: one uncle affected with onset after 40. My donor is 28, so my thought is that it's less of a concern than if they were a bit older.

Can anyone link me to any literature about FMT and colon cancer risk? The question I would like answered is: what is the basis for concern, is it that one might actually transplant cancerous cells, or is it that one would transplant a biome that supports the development of cancer?

Also, literature or educated remarks on the general relevance of family history to donor selection are welcome as well.

Thanks for reading,
Andy

You can see there is plenty of basis for concern that you may "transplant a biome that supports the development of cancer".

It's largely unknown. FMT is all about risk vs reward, and family history is an added risk.

I'd also add the potential for hormonal disturbance that can happen when transplanting from female to male or male to female. I know there's conflicting research on this but in my own hunt for FMT transplant donors, this is something I would seriously consider as a potential variable of concern.
