Sharing my daughter's experience with FMT for bipolar disorder

This is my first time posting. FMT entered my awareness a long time back but I never considered it as a potential adjunct therapy for my daughter who was diagnosed unexpectedly 10 years ago (when she was 28) with bipolar disorder. She has had a rocky decade, despite us embarking on vast amounts of research and professional help. She has a disciplined and very clean diet and lifestyle, is a talented musician and steeped in natural therapies, but has had almost yearly admittances into hospitals for mania. She doesn't seem to get the common crashing depression that is often characteristic of the bipolar disorders.

Prof Gordon Parker, founder of the Black Dog Institute in Australia (where we live) recently published a book on the gut and mood, focusing on the complete reversal of bipolar disorder in a woman who underwent FMT with her husband. (https://books.google.com.au/books/about/A_Gut_Mood_Solution.html?id=hQkE0QEACAAJ&redir_esc=y)

I read the book, as did Rosie (my daughter) and we then did further research. I contacted Parker and he lamented that ongoing trials (in Canada) were very slow. While his book is not a "diy" guide, there is enough information to allow people to seek their own donor, and try it themselves. Rosie decided to ask her stepmother if she would donate while she is in Australia for a few months.

Rosie's step-mother, although older than is ideal, is an incredibly healthy and active, thin Chinese woman. She has never had antibiotics and very minimal if any childhood vaccines. She and Rosie's father spend a huge amount on alternative health treatments and supplements. She mostly lives in HK where her brother is a functional doctor and owner of the largest alternative health clinic in HK, including a thriving colonhydrotherapy centre. Her (donor) stools are dark and firm. Rosie has done three at home enema treatments, and is not considering altering her dosage of the lithium carbonate that she takes. It has only been a few weeks, but she is feeling well.

I am sharing this for your information and am happy to receive comments or suggestions from you.

Thank you, and this forum is really excellent.

Hi Kate, I hope it works out for her. I trust Gordon shared Jane's (patient 1) website? This page might be of particular interest to you https://www.microbiomeinmind.com.au/fecal-microbiota-transplant-fmt-links

You might also want to share this case study about using activated charcoal to treat mania with Rosie in case she has future bouts. Jane tried it and was the motivation for her to try FMT, it's also worked for me too.

Just be aware that if she does try it she should take activated away from medication (like 8 hours either side), drink lots of water, make sure you don't have any obstructing issues with your gut or other gut issues. Capsules are better than powder because it won't wear out the enamel of your teeth.

I checked some of the links on that page, and I would say that should not be "go-to" information to give to people, especially not by itself without any disclaimer. It's missing some very important information & warnings, and is overall going to give people a very poor understanding of the topics it covers. It cites some very poor sources.

In my opinion, the wiki is by far the best resource available.

I understand you find it difficult to expend a lot of energy, but without establishing even one example of your claims, I really have nothing to go on. Jane obviously plans to turn turn that website into a fully featured information hub, so I'm sure she'd appreciate the constructive feedback, and if you posted it here I'd but interested too.

I think this deserves its own thread. If you want to make one, our comments can be moved there. It doesn't belong in Kate's thread.

If one reviews the link I shared, it should be quite obvious. Compare the Where to get FMT page with her "FMT Clinics" document. A specific example is her heavy reliance on hearsay, which is heavily contradicted by the public evidence.

I see she cites my wiki and capsule-making video in one of her documents, which is appreciated, but those documents don't seem up-to-date.

Compare her "Making FMT" document to the info & instructions in the wiki. I think her method is poor and possibly detrimental (blending, air exposure).

Additionally, she has shown herself to be a very unreliable source and easily manipulated by people with bad intentions.

Jane Dudley is not a reputable source of information. She started blatantly lying, which calls into question all the hearsay she's spread in the past, which she was taken at her word for.

At best, she's a childish, gullible, easily manipulated, irresponsible person, lacking integrity and intelligence, who spreads hearsay, lies, and disinformation based on what she wants to believe is true, which she picks up from scammers and trolls. Does no fact checking, nor bothers to review available evidence before making extremely important decisions/conclusions.

FYI, I have not talked about this/her since that last instance, and I only commented on this since you're citing her as a valid source and asked me to expound. This was a dormant issue, and I was happy to keep it that way.
