Microbiome Balancing protocol

New member here, please be patient. I’m coming across some concerns regarding a gut balancing protocol I’m about to begin.
First off, I have surgically shortened small intestine due to a Duodenal Switch surgery(bariatric) in 2016. Treated SIBO In 2021. Continued moderate bloating after meals, visceral hyperalgesia, and a recent histamine issue has begun including hives/urticaria. My recent Trio-Smart showed no signs of any forms of SIBO. However, according to my symptoms and a recent Biomesight GI map,I have a SEVERE dysbiosis situation with super elevated akkermansia, very high bacteroides (gram negative), little to no F-prausnitzii, elevated e-coli,
elevated proteobacteria, very high clostridium and very high sutterella. No detected bifidobacterium either.

My questions are about the safety, and sheer AMOUNT of supplements I’m being advised to add all at once by the microbiome researcher/specialist. It’s a difficult thing to trust when we’ve been through the wringer physically and emotionally. I thought this would be a better option since the litany of GI’s&doctors have not been helpful. But I’m feeling incredibly triggered due to my medical trauma and an intense mistrust of past doctors. I’m concerned this isn’t safe for short gut syndrome. The nerves are kicking in my anxiety/overthinking.
I just need a fresh set of eyes and a different perspective.

Is it common in these situations to just bombard the microbiome with a 6 week protocol of large numbers of new supplements/probiotics/prebiotics? This seems like it might throw me into some crazy, special hell as it supposedly “corrects the dysbiosis”. I’m happy to add the LONG list of suggestions if anyone is curious or willing to advise/speculate. TIA

That's a breath test, so you're already on the wrong track. Read this: https://humanmicrobiome.info/sibo.

There are hundreds of supplements that are common to try. They all modify the gut microbiome. Some of them help some people and not others. It's not possible to predict. A bombardment is one of many strategies and it's not possible to predict what it will do for you.

There is no proven method to "balance your microbiome". FMT is the only thing that comes close and is still being researched.

Thank you. The link you provided on testing is where I’ve just come from and having spent some time reading through the thread and links there….I'm feeling even more disappointed and concerned. Not to mention more confused. If these tests are just some money grab or the newest health conscious fad, how do folks like myself, of average intelligence, who’ve been abused and abandoned by the American health care system and just looking to self advocate and take responsibility for our health…how do we know what to do next? If we can’t trust these folks, who are now seemingly little more than charlatans preying on the sick, where do we turn for help. I was hoping against hope that this was my answer to 4 years of suffering and snowballing health issues. Dysbiosis still seems highly likely but now I’m not clear on how to even TRY to head for any semblance of balance. Now I feel I’m back at square one….only with no hope in sight. I’m sorry, this is much more emotional than I expected and it’s wholly inappropriate here. I’m just at a complete wall now with no visible way around it. Thanks for you commitment to truth and battling misinformation. I’m a pretty discerning person, but I believe when we are at the bottom and have nothing left to give, we are grasping at anything. That’s probably where I am.

You can start with the FAQ https://humanmicrobiome.info/faq/.

Personally, I'm disabled and have given up on most interventions other than FMT.

It's perfectly appropriate. I've written a few blogs about it. I, and a few other patients are currently writing to legislators about it. If we can't get someone to help I plan to drive across the country to DC to protest at the Capitol.
