Good morning guys

Wanted to post this study about a patient with Chron's disease who got FMT, and in the process, had her epilepsy was cured as well. The connection between the gut and epilepsy is well documented, and sometimes patients with epilepsy get a vagus nerve stimulation device implanted that disrupts/stimulates the vagus nerve (the exact nerve connection between the gut and the brain). The implication being that seizures don't start in the brain, they start in the gut and cascade up into the brain.

Anyways, here is the link to the study: https://www.wjgnet.com/1007-9327/full/v23/i19/3565.htm

Abstract

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising strategy that involves reconstruction of gut microbiota. Recently, it has been considered as a treatment of Crohn’s disease (CD) and certain neurological diseases. Here, to the best of our knowledge, we report the first case that used FMT to achieve remission of intestinal and neurological symptoms in a girl with CD and a 17-year history of epilepsy. During the 20 mo of follow-up, FMT has proved its efficacy in preventing relapse of seizures after withdrawing the antiepileptic drugs. Furthermore, this finding highlights the role of microbiota-gut-brain axis and inspires a novel treatment for epilepsy through remodeling gut microbiota.

Core tip: We report a case of 17-year history of epilepsy which fortunately showed improvement as a result of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) treatment for Crohn’s disease. This is the first report that FMT has been used in epilepsy treatment to our knowledge. This case might open a new window into disease mechanism focusing on the microbiota-gut-brain axis and inspire a novel treatment for epilepsy through remodeling of gut microbiota.

Here's a video I did about it:

I want to be the first man in America to CURE epilepsy. I've done a stool analysis and I was high in two pathological strains, klebsiella p. and enterobacter cloacae. Klebsiella has been shown to cause epilepsy in animal models of epilepsy, link below:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8263697/#:~:text=3.,pneumoniae activates microglia in mice.&text=A Representative images of Iba,0.0001, Student's t test).

Interestingly, up until the 1920's, the keto diet was the main treatment for epilepsy, until pharma came along and taking pills is a lot easier than eating keto. I've tried a few times and it's very difficult to stay on a keto diet. Initially keto seemed to make my epilepsy worse which could have been for two reasons: 1, I may have alpha-gal syndrome (an allergy to red meat that ticks can cause in the area where I live) and 2, it could have been a herxheimer reaction to the klebsiella dying off. I've had similar reactions to NAC, which may have killed off so much klebsiella that my body reacted very negatively to it.

Anyways, just wanted to share this info here as I've talked with Michael a bit and want to contribute any way I can. It sounds like we both hit the same problem which was being stonewalled by the FDA. They gave me the exact same copy and paste word-salad from the FDA website on biologics about "find a clinical trial, we don't care." Only clinical trial on FMT for epilepsy is in China, similar to the study I posted at the top.

The FDA is probably the most corrupted institution in our country and they need to be investigated by the department of homeland security for bribe taking, from big pharma and foreign governments, and that's no joke. I looked up the individual who sent me the copy and pasted response and they live in a literal million dollar house north of DC. Your tax dollars at work, protecting big pharma profits.

Right now I'm thinking of medical tourism as my only real option, or somehow getting the attention of RFK Jr. I know some people in the local media who might take an interest in this topic and could potentially lead to a meeting with state level politicians. They're all people who are on board bigtime with RFK Jr. so I'm hopeful. I've already sent some emails to them (the state level politicians) and have yet to hear back. Will keep you all posted. Let me know if you have questions.

Thank you for sharing! I'll add this to the wiki.

I don't think this is an option at all. There are no good sources abroad. Someone even tried going to the Hadza for FMT and their results were not good.

I think these are the only real options:

Thanks Michael,

I've read those two threads, very good and informative. There's still a couple things I'm confused on that maybe you could help me understand.

1. Is it possible to purchase FMT capsules or enemas "off-market"? Like, someone on here with a good biome that is willing to sell? Not looking to do it myself just yet or anything, I just want to understand the field and see if that's something even available. I'm well aware of how rare a good donor is to find, but I also have the mindset of "perfect is the enemy of the good." I don't want perfection to be another bureaucratic obstacle to finding cures/treatment. I've done a whole lot riskier things in my life, even knowing just how wrong a stool transplant could go (inducing serious health conditions just like it could cure them). I don't currently know anyone in my life I could approach for a sample who is in good enough health where it would be a reasonable ask.

2. Why would we not want to do medical tourism? There seem to be countries where FMT is used for the treatment of IBS, Chrons, so on (I have gut issues in addition to epilepsy as well). I've had a few people suggest this to me in my pursuit and view it as viable, but I'm open to hearing reasons to stay away. For political reasons I can't travel to any country that has restricted speech laws, so Europe, Australia, China, very very off limits for me.

I've ordered some anerobic bacteria and tried adding those to my gut which did seem to help, specifically Akkermansia which I was very low on in my stool analysis, and is generally very low in people with epilepsy in general. Seemed to help for a while but I don't think I was able to overcome quorum sensing (how bacteria can tell density and maintain stable populations in the gut). Maybe if I had kept pushing and introducing more and more it would have stabilized with that keystone strain in place, or used an enema solution instead of pills. But really I think I'm lacking in bacteriophages that consume Klebsiella specifically, and I can't find any source for specific bacteriophages that I would trust. It's probably a lack of bacteriophages for Klebsiella, as well as Klebsiella's quorum sensing properties keeping it as a dominant strain in my gut. Biofilms are rough and this strain is known for it. I'm hesitant to take antibiotics because it has a high likelihood of killing the good bacteria, while the bad bacteria thrive hidden in their biofilms and then come back even stronger when the antibiotics stop. Part of my stool analysis showed a couple antibiotics that this strain is vulnerable to, but I still hesitate and haven't used that approach yet.

Let me know what you think, and thanks again for hosting this forum.
