Twelve years ago I had my third bowel surgery to have my second J-pouch created after the first j-pouch failed due to pouchitis. It means that I have a shorter small intestine and need to use the loo 12 times in any 24 hour period, mostly at night and in the evening which affects my social life and sleeping. I'm very tired.
Previously, I had a stoma bag for over 8 years which caused multiple problems. Flouroquinolones like levofloxacin and cipro reduce the toilet frequency by a half but only while I take them, which I can't do for long periods due to their severe side effects.
Does anyone have any recommendations to reduce the frequency of bowel movements? I've tried VSL#3 and the usual fermented foods like kefir, mizo and sauerkraut but none are beneficial.
