I watched this webinar last week. It really doesn't present any new information on the microbiome that we haven't already heard, so don't go in expecting it to. However it does explain the history of probiotics (Spoiler: the original idea was that gut bacteria are bad, sort of like a permanent infectious disease, and yogurt bacteria keep gut bacteria from growing in a dish), which I found somewhat interesting to see where the focus on that group of bacteria came from in the first place, since there doesn't seem to be much of a good reason for it. It's also mentioned that a lot of the supposed benefits of probiotics (all of which were found retroactively, once the probiotic industry was already a thing) are likely due to the fact that these species are studied so much, not because they have some special unique property, which I agree with.

I also was pleasantly surprised by how open and forthright this video is about how much of "gut wellness" commentary in the media is scientifically unfounded and misleading. They basically say that aside from possibly inflammatory bowel diseases, there's no consensus on what bacteria are actually healthy and so it's not helpful to tout specific diets, probiotics, or other lifestyle changes based on supposed effects on the microbiome.

I just thought I'd post and summarize this here in case anyone was wondering what they said in this webinar--it's been advertised to me for a while through an email list I'm on to do with the microbiome and FMT.
