Donor: Mother.
- The mother supplements with magnesium to soften her own stool to make the preparation easier.
- She did blood & stool tests on herself through her primary doctor.
- She blends the stool in a blender, then strains it.
We didn't do any bowel cleansing prep. We did do a triple antibiotic therapy for 10 days beforehand. My daughter's GI doctor prescribed them. She took rifampin, flagyl, and vancomycin.
For right now, we are looking at it as a treatment (though I hope it's a cure!) because I don't know and nobody can tell me for sure what will happen if we stop doing FT and/or stop the sulfasalazine. I am not taking any chances with my child since what we have been doing is clearly working for her. I'll take this over Remicade and/or colectomy any day.
Symptoms: severe fatigue, severe diarrhea up to 11 times a day. Stool was filled with blood.
She was on several medications to manage the symptoms. Prior to FMT, she was going to be put on Remicade or have her Colon removed.
The FMTs were done via Enema.
Within 24 hours of the first FMT, almost all her symptoms were gone. But they continued doing them for 9 months.
Emma doesn't think FMT is gross, but says it smells a bit when her mother is preparing it in the bathroom.
